40th day of build. The window well extentions were added and the backfill is done. Also, the trenches for the septic system and leach field were dug. Progress!

37th day of build. So close!
36th day of build. The (white) window wells are in, and the backfill is almost done. Because the basement walls are nine feet high, extentions will need to be added to the wells before the final grading. Why didn't we just put the windows higher up, you ask? Egress, my friend. Windows have to be … Continue reading Backfill, Day 2

22nd day of build. It was windy, wet, and thundery, but they poured the basement walls today (Thursday) nonetheless.
21st day of build. (3 weeks) The forms were scheduled to be set Friday, but the concrete sub had a cancellation and bumped us up to today (Wednesday). Yay! On Thursday they'll finish up the forms, get a county inspection, and start pouring in the afternoon. Our builder tells us that after that the concrete … Continue reading Setting Forms

This means that our new home will definitely have design flaws, but the cost to use a design-build kind of person would have put us beyond our budget. Had … Continue reading Our Fenestration Education, or: How Window Design Affected Costs
