Yeah, it's that time. It's been that time forever, but we had to wait until the excavator was done to put in any landscape water lines. That's another reason that slow dirt mover had to go. We can't plant any trees or prairie grass until the water's in, and that really needs to happen this … Continue reading Irrigation

Overall, we are very pleased with how our home turned out. It has been a long and sometimes stressful process, but now that we've been living in the house for a few weeks, we thought we'd share some thoughts on our experiences with subs. Mostly it was a good process, with only a few hiccups. … Continue reading Would We Use Them Again? Which Businesses Made the Cut
244th day of build. (about 35 weeks) The HVAC guys showed up today and hooked some stuff up. They had misplaced the remotes for the upstairs minisplits, but had the downstairs one, and by the time L.M. and I got back there in the evening, it was up and running. I'm pretty sure it was … Continue reading Heat! Well, Downstairs at Least
236th day of build. We had four subcontractors swarming our house: Electrical Guys, Stone Guys, Plumbing Guys, and Garage Door Guys. It felt like Christmas! L.M. had to take a day off, though, to make sure everything was copacetic and to make sure the plumbers knew why we needed them to use the Ikea sink … Continue reading Everyone Shows Up All at Once
232nd day of build. (about 33 weeks) Stuff is happening almost every day now, it seems. Except for the really important stuff like plumbing and electricity, but I'm hopefull they'll eventually get to the house. Here's a rundown of what's happened so far this week (today's Thursday). The floor was finally finished Monday; yay! The … Continue reading Stone Guy Starts! and Other Miscellaneous Happenings
149th day of build. (a bit over 21 weeks) Just a short but celebratory post that our four-way county inspection has passed. I'm not even sure what all had to happen for it, but I'm happy that we can move forward with the insulation. I think it's to make sure framing, plumbing, electrical and HVAC … Continue reading Four-way Inspection Passed!
114th day of build. It seems the plumbers just quietly plug away at getting stuff done. We're always a little surprised when we show up in the evening and little plumbing things are done. And they don't even complain when we remind them of stuff that needs changing per the plans and what we discussed … Continue reading More Plumbing
107th day of build. We weren't able to get to the ranch for a couple days this week, but not much is going on. The plumbers have kind of had the run of the place as we wait for roofers and HVAC. We are also waiting on the other two shower/tub enclosures. Good news: our … Continue reading Random Plumbing, and Roof Supplies
103rd day of build. I just have to say that plumbers are a lot more laid back than framers. We went out to the ranch mid-day, and the main plumber had some questions for us, had stuff to fix, and needed the right plans. When we told him the toilet was in the wrong place … Continue reading Plumbing!
69th day of build. Yeah, they weren't happy with us, but we had them dig up the 3/4-inch pipe from the meter and put in the 1-inch stuff. Then we checked the fitting to make sure everything was on the up and up.
